It took roughly until the 20th century where women art work was beginning to be noticed. Large events, known as Biennales, standing for every other year or Triennials, standing for every three years, are held in various locations around the world from New York City to Venice, Italy, even Sao Paulo, Brazil. These events focus on contemporary art, becoming popular for various artists. Originally when the Biennales were open, few to none female artists where in them until late 20th century where that number increased to roughly 25 percent. Today, we see various themes that female artists tackle in their exhibitions, ranging from religion, cultural traditions, and social/political issues. Some artists mentioned are Yayoi Kusama, Arahmaiani Feisal, Nilima Sheikh, Marta Bravo, and Tracy Moffatt.
