For my semester project I want to discuss how black women and their features are over sexualized in our society. I will create a tumblr pages dedicated to this topic. On the tumblr page i will have various pictures showing how black women were portrayed in the past to now.I was inspired by this tweet on twitter which states "telling black women that they dont look like most black women creates this false idea that black women cant possess these features naturally". I want to also discuss how women get plastic surgery to get these so called "features". That being said it seems like in our society our "black features define who we are and that as black women we must have these features to be considered black". This also shows how black woman who don't think they have these features start to have this insecurity about their bodies. Not only that but how women ( for example white celebrities) in general feel like they need these features because this is what they believe men want.
I want to go into medicine not plastic surgery directly but i thought that this would be a cool way to connect my future career in medicine with this topic.
some links that i will use to create my project

Black women in the media
Good idea! You should talk about how black women may feel insecure about features that aren't "European" and how this may affect the way they see themselves as well as how others view these women. Check out this paper about racial identity and the perceptions and stereotypes among black women: http://www.uncg.edu/hdf/facultystaff/Coard/Perceptions%20and%20Preferences%20for%20Skin%20Color.pdf
