Feminism 101: Breaking Down Gender Equality
"This will be a video montage of interviews and images depicting the different waves of feminism. Ultimately concluding with the importance of gender equality by explaining Emma Watson’s movement HeForShe and asking men to sign the pledge!"
Part 1: Introduction (Origin of Feminism)
- Looking into how the movement for gender equality and female representation started. This will include a few female art pieces (artists who were political through their work).
Part 2: The Interview
- Hoping to prove how very few people understand the real definition of feminism through a series of questions. I will ask them to define the following words:
- Patriarchy
- Misogyny
- Gender
- Sex
- Feminism (Depending on the answer to this response I would ask them the following)
- Do you believe women and men deserve equal pay for equal work?
- Do you believe women and men should have equal rights socially and politically?
- Ultimately, I will provide them with proper definitions of each term in case they don't know it as the interview progresses.
Part 3: Breaking Boundaries (Creating Culture Change)
- Whether the interviewee understood these terms or not and after hopefully having an effective, interactive, and educational conversation I want them to tell me what they could do to promote feminism.
- WOMEN & MEN: I will ask them how they will promote feminism from now on and ask them to write in on a white board and show it to the camera.
To take it a step further...
- In order to really reach out to the male audience I’d like to advocate UN Women’s HeForShe Movement by asking men to sign the pledge about practicing gender equality and the fight against sexism:
- The HeForShe Commitment: “Gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue that requires my participation. I commit to take action against all forms of violence and discrimination faced by women and girls.” http://www.heforshe.org/
Part 4: Conclusion (Post Modernist World/ Continue the Call of Action)
- Demonstrate a montage of paintings or different FEMALE AND MALE artists around the world who are self proclaimed feminist and continue to pave the way for female empowerment and putting a halt on gender roles. Conclude by asking, "What are you waiting for to be apart of a global movement?"
This sounds awesome I think it would be interesting if you elaborated more on the words and allowed people to branch out on the topics towards the end.
