Semester Project

For my semester project, I will discuss the oppression of women in society and how they have evolved over time. Focusing on the United States specifically, I will present the hardships women faced and how they were treated unjustly by men who felt they were dominant. In my presentation, I will be mentioning major achievements by women that play an important role in society and discuss the importance of feminist art.

Women were never acknowledged for their artistic ability and their skills never compared to that of men, for the simple reason that it was created from a woman. It is important to understand what purpose women's art was aiming to serve and what their art pieces depicted- many times they made images focusing on women's lifestyles and treatment.

Through a series of powerpoints, I would like to point out women's accomplishments and take into account the obstacles they had to go through in order to be recognized. I would like to take time to educate others on the importance of women as a whole and appreciate their presence to set the stage for others today.

  1. You have essentially outlined this class as your semester project. How can you specify and FOCUS this idea? You must read and research this concept in order to choose a focus for your project. You must also think of a method to PUBLISH the piece. The presentation n class is NOT the project. The project must exist outside of the class. Who is your audience and what would you like to create for them? About what EXACTLY? It is obvious you are still not sure what you are making.

  2. Maybe you can concentrate on the work of the Guerilla Girls and the group the Brainstormers to illustrate the struggles that you have outlined here.

  3. Again your PROJECT CANNOT BE A POWERPOINT presentation!! I have said this one thousand times in class and he parameters of the project are described in the syllabus. Please look at the project description at the end of the syllabus again for guidance.
